Bards of the Bar

Fiction Beer Company invites you to experience the Bards of the Bar Drag Show this Friday from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The event will be hosted by Countess Arachnophobia and Jester Rex Monstrosity. The Ren Faire themed drag show will be returning with a Dungeons & Dragons edition, with the cast rolling for initiative to determine who performs first. There will also be a D&D audience game and a costume contest with spectacular prizes. Kick off your weekend with role-play, beer and drag! Doors open at 7:00 PM. Admission is free and there will be an age restriction of 21+.

Beat the Blues Bash

Where? 1601 Arapahoe 
When? January 9th

Grab your tickets to the Beat the Blues Bash this Friday, benefiting Historic Denver. General admission kicks off from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM and guests will have access to the evening’s program, including remarks by Elizabeth Schlosser about her newest book. There will be music, mingling and light bites aplenty. VIP guests will gain access to the festivities an hour earlier and will receive a complimentary copy of the book and a private meet-and-greet and Q&A with the author.

Denver Nuggets Home Games

Where? 1000 Chopper Circle 
When? January 9th & 11th

The Nuggets will have two home games this weekend, so grab your tickets so you don’t miss a beat. Friday kicks off the fun at 7:00 PM against the Atlanta Hawks, followed by Sunday’s 6:00 PM game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Arrive early on Friday to snag a Bruce Brown Bobblehead, which will be available for the first 5,000 fans in attendance. 13th Annual All-Out Polar Prowl

Get ready to kick off your athletic year at the 13th annual Polar Prowl on Saturday! Hosted by All-Out at the Stenger Sports Complex in Arvada, this is Denver’s first half marathon of the year and an official BOLDERBoulder qualifying event! Choose your challenge between a 5K, 10K, or half marathon and enjoy a relatively flat course that meanders on the Van Bibber Creek Trail, offering breathtaking views of Arvada’s open spaces and Table Mountain. This course is super spectator-friendly and you have a good chance for a personal record!

PRO Tip: Dress in a penguin costume to compete for a discount for a future event!  

McGregor Skate Pajama and Onesie Night

When? January 10th

This Saturday, get cozy in your favorite pajamas and head to McGregor Square from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM for Onesie & Pajama Night at the rink! Those who arrive in their finest attire will get half off skating. Skating at the McGregor Skate Ice Rink is a LoDo winter tradition that you won’t want to miss. The rink will be open on weekends through January 25th, so take advantage while you can! Skate rentals for adults, plus admission, are bundled at $15 or you can bring your own skates and pay $6. Seniors 65+ and children under 2 skate for free and military discounts are available.

PRO Tip: Feeling peckish? Milepost Zero Food Hall at McGregor Square will be open for your food and drink needs.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

Where? 1000 Chopper Circle 
When? January 10th

The Avalanche will kick off a home game stretch on Thursday against the Ottawa Senators, followed by Saturday’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets at 2:00 PM and another game on Monday evening against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Even if you’re just a casual fan, it’s sure to be a fun time cheering on the Avalanche as they fight to defend their home turf. Ball Arena lots open 3 hours prior to the start of events, so get there early or get dropped off by a ride share service in the designated lot.

PRO Tip: Tickets for Saturday’s game can be purchased here! Bring a friend or two, enjoy a drink or grab some tasty concessions at Ball Arena. All concessions are cashless. 

Dementia-Friendly Tour @ History Colorado Center

Where? 1200 North Broadway

If you have a loved one with dementia, then make a plan to visit the History Colorado Center this Saturday for a dementia-friendly tour. These tours are in an effort to promote connection and belonging for adults with dementia and their companions, including discussions and reflections on museum objects. The tour has been thoughtfully designed for those who wish to linger and enjoy the museum at a slower pace. Participants will have the opportunity to sit down and engage in a facilitated discussion about the objects, while learning new information and contributing their own observations along the way. The tour will be wheelchair accessible. 

PRO Tip: Identical tours on Saturday will be offered at 9:30 AM and 10:30 AM. Tickets are free but capacity is limited. 

Crafturday

Feeling crafty this weekend? Fiction Beer Company is hosting a Crafturday afternoon this Saturday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Whatever type of craft you’re into, there will be something for everybody! Eager crafters will find a variety of supplies, such as coloring pages, origami paper, and yarn. Crafters are also welcome to bring their own projects from home to work on! There’s no better place to get crafty than in a taproom. Enjoy meeting other artsy people and sipping on delicious craft beer while you work.

National Western Stock Show & Rodeo

The National Western Stock Show presented by CommonSpirit Health is BACK! Come celebrate 120 years and experience one of Colorado’s most sought-after annual events since 1906. Tickets are available now, so grab yours and head to the National Western Complex! This is the nation’s premier livestock, rodeo and horse show. Guests can expect traditional rodeo fun such as top-notch bull riders, horse shows and livestock competitions and auctions, as well as acres of shopping at the largest Western trade show in the state. Dust off your boots and saddle up to enjoy all things rodeo!

PRO Tip: Throughout the duration of the show and rodeo, there will be 20+ pro rodeos, as well as special events like the Mexican Rodeo Extravaganza on Sunday and Xtreme Dog Shows, Olympics-style Horse Jumping events and more later in the month! 

Winter of Reading Book Bingo: 70’s, 80’s and 90’s Bestsellers

The Sam Gary Branch Library is hosting a Winter of Reading Book Bingo this Sunday in the Community Room from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. If you like your reading with a side of retro, this will be right up your alley! This year’s bingo will feature three cozy and nostalgic rounds that are inspired by the most popular bestselling books of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Each round will encourage participants to explore iconic reads, beloved authors and throwback favorites that defined each of these iconic decades. Nothing beats a little friendly competition, as well as amazing book prizes up for grabs! Whether you’re a reader that lived through these decades or you’re just discovering some of these bestsellers for the first time, this bingo is open to all adults who are eager to travel through reading history.

PRO Tip: There are no reservation requirements or admission fee to participate in Winter of Reading Book Bingo. Just show up at 11:00 AM and enjoy! 

Family-Friendly Activities in Denver This Weekend

Nothing says a memorable weekend like spending quality time with the family. Explore Denver with the little ones this weekend at a local library, at a museum or at a nearby airport while you look to the skies as planes fly overhead and land for breakfast! 

Breakfast Fly-In

Wings Over the Rockies is excited for another Breakfast Fly-In this Saturday from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Exploration of Flight at Centennial Airport. Get a head start on Morse Code Day while you learn to write your name using a series of dots and dashes, while also discovering your NATO phonetic call-sign and explore how pilots have successfully communicated across the skies for generations. Attendees will also have the chance to explore aircraft up close on the tarmac, while also grabbing breakfast from a local food truck. Aircraft will be flying in and there will be interactive exhibits and simulations in the hangar to explore. Pre-purchase your tickets here, with tickets starting at $6.95 for children 4 to 16 and $10.95 for active military and veterans and seniors ages 65+. Adults pay $12.95 and children ages 3 and under get in free! 

PRO Tip: Pilots can fly in for a free breakfast! Contact organizers for a tie-down space. This weekend’s food truck will be Cruz In & Eat. 

Kids Create (0-5 Years Old)

Where? 5575 East 33rd Avenue 
When? January 10th

The Pauline Robinson Branch Library is excited to welcome young learners to the Warren D. Alexander Community Room this Saturday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM for the Kids Create program! During this afternoon event, young children will have the chance to explore open-ended art, crafts and building materials. Kiddos can collaborate, develop problem-solving skills and spark imagination in a fun and supportive setting. Grown-ups are also encouraged to join the young participants for an inclusive experience for all!

PRO Tip: No reservations are required for this program and admission is always free. Come on out, meet some new friends and develop motor and communication skills! 

Free Day at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science

Where? 2001 Colorado Boulevard 
When? January 11th

Enjoy the first SCFD free day of the year this Sunday at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. This is the perfect opportunity to satisfy that science curiosity without blowing the budget. No tickets are needed for general museum admission on these select days and walk up guests can gain access to the Wildlife Halls and permanent exhibits. Separate ticket entry will be required to visit the planetarium or temporary exhibits at the museum. 

PRO Tip: Upcoming free days are scheduled for Sunday, February 1st, Monday, February 9th and March 6th (Friday evening 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM) for Girls & Science.
