Travel Tips for Your Memorial Day Weekend Getaway

If you’re planning on getting out of town for the long weekend, keep these travel and safety tips in mind!

Plan for Traffic

The Friday before Memorial Day is often a busy time to travel, so if you’re planning on hitting the road or catching a flight on May 24th — plan accordingly. If you’re heading out on a road trip, leave earlier to beat the crowd and if you’re heading to the airport, give yourself plenty of time to find parking and make your way through security.

Stock the Car with Essentials

If you’re taking a road trip, make sure you have essentials such as a first-aid kit, plenty of water, extra snacks, and chargers galore. Parents traveling with little ones will also want to make sure they have plenty of entertainment, including books, games, and coloring activities to keep them occupied on the drive.

Book in Advance

With many other families making plans to travel on Memorial Day weekend, hotels can get booked fast. Beat surge pricing and make sure you have available rooms to choose from by booking with as much advance notice as possible.

Watch the Weather Forecast

May is often the wettest month in Denver, so keep an eye on the forecast and alter your travel plans when necessary if there’s a rainstorm rolling in. Even if the forecast looks clear, pack a raincoat just in case!

Schedule Vehicle Maintenance

Before hitting the road, make sure that your vehicle is roadworthy with an inspection from the mechanic and an oil change if you’re due. Double-check the car battery so you don’t end up stranded waiting for a jump!
