Spring Exhibition Opening Celebration

The Museum of Contemporary Art is hosting a Spring Exhibition Opening Celebration this Friday. The celebration is an all-ages event that will feature craft cocktails, music, and plenty of good conversation from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM. Guests are invited to emerge from their winter hibernation for this opening party that celebrates the spring exhibition, Suki Seokyeong Kang: Mountain—Hour—Face. Kang incorporates sculpture, painting, video, installation, and performance as she crafts her art and investigates the notion of space and its relationship to an individual’s social position within society.

Nerd Nite is for everyone who’s a fan of TED Talks, the Discovery Channel, Wikipedia rabbit holes, and drinking. This show will be held at The Bug Theatre at 7:00 PM, with doors opening at 6:30 PM. Tickets can be purchased online for $12.50 per individual or $40 for a pack of four. Tickets will be sold for $20 at the door. This Friday’s lineup features Tony Meade discussing “Concerning Hobbits: Tolkien’s Most Important Creation,” Scott Denning presenting “DIRT! IN! SPAAACE!,” and Nicki Bartak exploring “Liquid Gold: Valuing Water in Colorado.”

The stage showcases local talent as they interact with hilarious improv comedy, all while pulling inspiration from America’s Got Talent and Kill Tony. Each edition of Denver’s Got Talent will feature a diverse lineup of talent, as well as lively judges who will be cracking jokes and riffing with the performers, and to top it off they even have a live band with them on stage. There will be selfie stations, as well as a themed dress code to keep the vibes high. The Teacher Feature is a fun evening of performances by area music instructors, with 2025 showcases including the yearly performance of their band “Staff Infection.” The show will take place in the Daniels Hall.

Sense of Security is hosting a pickleball event at 3rd Shot Pickleball in Wheat Ridge this Saturday. All players will have the opportunity to enjoy drinks from the bar and catered meals at their leisure. DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon is a captivating and delightful tale about a young Viking named Hiccup, who defies tradition when he befriends what’s supposed to be one of his deadliest foes. His newfound friend, a ferocious dragon named Toothless, helps this unlikely hero fight against all odds to save both of their worlds. The film features John Powell’s Oscar-nominated score performed live to picture. The Colorado Symphony will be performing every note from the original full film score while the movie is projected onto screens in Boettcher Concert Hall.

Storytime Book Launch with Saki Tanaka

Second Star to the Right Children’s Books is hosting author/illustrator Saki Tanaka as she presents her newest book, Nimbus Plays Alone! A brief description of the book outlines Nimbus as a cloud who loves life in the sky and playing peekaboo with the Sun and raining on the Ground below. However, can Nimbus learn to play with the other clouds? Tanaka was born in Japan and grew up moving around the globe, which taught her how to become the “new kid” every few years. The Mexican-Japanese artist is now based in Colorado and uses her past experiences to make outsiders feel good about being themselves.
