Denver's Best Ice Skating Rinks

The Denver area is home to a multitude of skating opportunities, from year-round programs for beginner skaters, adult hockey leagues, and seasonal outdoor rinks. Whether you’ve been on the ice since childhood or you’re just now putting on skates, it’s always a fun way to get active!

Downtown Denver Rink

Where? 1601 Arapahoe Street

The Downtown Denver Rink features a diverse selection of exciting events and themed skate sessions throughout the season. Ice rink admission is free and guests are welcome to bring their own skates or rent some onsite. Rentals are priced at $12 for adults, $9 for kids ages 12 and under, and $8 for military and first responders. Skate aid rentals are $6. The rink closes at the beginning of February, with a closing weekend Valentine’s Day celebration at the rink. Other fun events during the winter include a visit from the Colorado Avalanche during the Try Hockey for Free session that’s designed for kids ages 5-12.

PRO Tip: On select dates, visitors can score $2 off their skate rentals when they wear a Denver sports team jersey on home game nights.

The Ice Ranch

Where? 841 Southpark Drive

The Ice Ranch in Littleton has a bit of everything — from tournaments, learn-to-play hockey programs, adult leagues, hockey camps, and more, you can hit the ice all year! The ranch features two NHL-sized rinks and is complete with a pro shop, as well as curling and Zamboni lessons! You can even grab a bite to eat at Celly’s Bar & Grill at the Ice Ranch while you watch the action on the ice. Adult clinics are hosted at The Ice Ranch during the winter for ages 18 to 99! There is very limited space and a high demand. Goalies are free and limited to four!

PRO Tip: Need a pick me up? Check out the Ice Ranch Coffee Shop for hot brewed coffees, espresso drinks, teas, and chocolate beverages.

Big Bear Ice Arena

Where? 8580 East Lowry Boulevard

The Big Bear Ice Arena offers figure skating, hockey, and public skate programs. Whether you’re just learning how to skate or you’ve been on the ice since childhood, the arena provides an abundance of opportunity for every level. Programs at Big Bear include Pond Hockey Drop-In, Learn to Skate, Adult Learn to Play Hockey, Stick & Puck, Figure Skating/Freestyle, and Public Skate Sessions. Admission for public skate times is priced at $9 for members and $14 for non-members, with $5 rentals for each. Adult Learn to Play Hockey classes are priced at $150 and meet on Sundays.

PRO Tip: If you’re interested in joining a league, the Spring 2025 league start dates are scheduled for March 24th & 25th for D2 and D4 and May 11th for D3.

Edge Ice Arena

Where? 6623 South Ward Street

Edge Ice Arena offers recreational and family skating, as well as public skating, learn to skate, figure skating, stick & puck, and learn to play hockey programs. Facility amenities include two NHL-sized rinks, locker rooms, Edge strength training, skate sharpening, and even a penalty box with a full-service grill, bar, and catering. Additional services include rentals, broomball, and a variety of leagues. The arena is open 7 days a week, with varying hours. Drop-in activities require registration and admission to the arena is applicable to both district and non-district residents. For public skating, youth ages walking to 5 are priced at $4 and must be accompanied by a paying adult. Youth ages 6 to 17 are priced at $6, adults up to the age of 61 are priced at $8 and seniors ages 62 and up are priced at $7.

PRO Tip: Skated up an appetite? Enjoy great food, drink specials, and good times at the Penalty Box located on the main level of the Edge Ice Arena. With 4 HD LCD screens, you can keep up with all of the latest sports action.

Family Sports Center

Where? 6901 South Peoria Street

The Family Sports Center in Dove Valley is situated just two miles east of I-25 and Arapahoe! The center has a two-sheet ice arena for ice skaters and hockey players to practice their techniques. The facility is also the practice facility for the Colorado Avalanche, making it a favorite amongst avid fans and little ones who want to be like their favorite player when they grow up. With two rinks on the main floor, skaters will have plenty of space to practice. The ice schedule is kept updated online and features public skating times, adult drop-ins, learn to skate, take a shot, and more. The facility offers year-round skating with varying hours. The onsite pro shop offers blade sharpening services, custom-fitted skates, boot covers, apparel, hockey protective equipment, sticks and replacement blades, jerseys, and more.

PRO Tip: In addition to the ice rink, the indoor sports dome, the executive golfing course, and the two-story entertainment center — there is also a full-service restaurant and bar onsite that overlooks the Avalanche’s practice sheet.

McGregor Skate

Where? 1901 Wazee Street

Downtown Denver has never felt so magical. Take in the sights and sounds of McGregor Square from the McGregor Skate Ice Rink this winter! Hailing as LoDo’s newest skating rink, the facility is open daily from November 29th. This is the perfect winter activity for guests of all ages, including friends, family, and even solo skaters. Skate rentals are available onsite and the rink is meant to be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. Adult skate rentals and admission are priced at $15 or just $6 if you’re bringing your own skates. Seniors ages 65+ skate for free and children’s skate + admission is set at $9 ($6 if you BYO skates).

PRO Tip: The McGregor Skating Rink hosts various events throughout the winter season, including an Aprés Ski Silent Disco 21+, a Rockies Fanfest, and the FINAL DAY event with 50% off skating with a Milepost drink purchase on January 26th.

Parker Ice Trail

Where? 20115 Mainstreet

The Parker Ice Trail at Discovery Park is open through the end of February for the 2024-2025 season. The ice trail is open daily, with varying hours on weekdays and weekends. Situated next to Parker’s Library on Mainstreet and Pine Drive, the ice trail is one of just a few of its kind in the country. The skating path meanders through the park, reminiscent of a frozen river or a canal. Skaters or visitors can stay warm next to any of the three fire pits that sit adjacent to the ice trail or sip on a hot chocolate while they watch the skaters pass by. There are concessions onsite, as well as skate rentals and restroom facilities available to patrons.

PRO Tip: Admission and rates are priced at $8 for children ages 10 and under, $10 for ages 11 and older, and $4 for rentals. Upgrade to a 4-visit pass for $45 if you plan on visiting several times throughout the season. Season passes are also available!

South Suburban Sports Complex

Where? 4810 East County Line Road

The South Suburban Sports Complex is a regional, top-tier facility that includes an array of athletics amenities, as well as a restaurant and a bar! Amenities include three sheets of ice, two synthetic turf fields, and two gymnasiums that are compatible with basketball, pickleball, and more. Public skating allows everyone the opportunity to enjoy the freedom of the ice, whether they want to practice, spend time with friends, or just glide. Children under the age of three skate for free (does not include rentals). On weekdays, residents pay $7 and non-residents pay $9. On Friday evenings and weekends, the rate increases by $0.50. The complex also offers Take A Shot, private staff lessons, drop-in hockey, and more.

PRO Tip: Need a pair of skates? No problem! Skate rentals are priced at $2.50 for residents and $3.50 for non-residents.

Old Town Skate

Where? 824 Front Street

Louisville’s Old Town Skate rink is located at The Steinbaugh Pavilion. Ice rink hours are subject to change at any time and closures may occur due to heavy rain or severe weather and poor ice conditions. Kids ages 4 and under skate for free and adult admission plus skate rental is priced at $10. If you bring your own skates, admission is lowered to $5. Skate assists are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are complementary. There is no time limit when skating at the rink and there are various guest amenities, such as concessions and portable restrooms for guest comfort and convenience. The rink will be temporarily closed every Saturday and Sunday from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM for ice resurfacing.

PRO Tip: If you plan on visiting Old Town Skate throughout the winter, you can purchase a 5-Visit Punch Card for $45.

Ice Centre at the Promenade

Where? 10710 Westminster Boulevard

The Ice Centre at the Promenade is one of the largest public ice skating facilities in America. From learn-to-skate programs, adult hockey, to figure skating — there’s an abundance of opportunity for those new to the sport and those looking to hone their skills. Lessons are taught by qualified professional skating instructors using the curriculum from the USA Program. Lessons are offered year-round to allow skaters to continue progressing through levels and advance their skills. Lessons are offered for all skill levels and from ages 4 through adults.

PRO Tip: Spring 1 Lessons begin at the end of February 2025, with registration opening at the end of January. Lessons are once a week for six weeks — or five weeks if it’s a 5-week session. Skaters will have five or six 30-minute group lessons and then additional practice time on a different rink.

Apex Center Ice Arena

Where? 13150 West 72nd Avenue

The Apex Center Ice Arena offers public skating, as well as a variety of programs such as Adult Skaters Coffee Club where you can get some exercise and enjoy a coffee with new friends! Admission is priced at $5, which includes skate rentals and coffee. Public skating fees are priced at $2.50 for ages 2-5, $8 for ages 6-61 and $5.50 for ages 62+. These fees increase if you’re a non-resident. Skate rentals are priced at $4 for residents and $5.50 for non. Apex Center Ice Arena also offers a figure skating program and private lessons, learn-to-skate lessons, a figure skating camp, and more.

PRO Tip: Private “booster” lessons are offered as a way to enhance the learning experience for skaters enrolled in the Learn to Skate program. These boosters can provide a skater with more structured fun and extra practice time.
